Coastal Prairie

Description

California's coastal prairie has been more impacted by urbanization than any other major plant communities in the U.S. This grassland community also contains more plant species per square meter than any other grassland type in North America. Currently, we are faced with important questions about the composition and distribution of coastal prairie, how best to conserve what's left, and if it is possible to restore the habitat. This site provides information about the ecology and conservation of coastal prairie and links interested parties to some of the latest, most relevant science on the subject. The Coastal Training Program is devoted to providing more information on this subject in the future through field trips, workshops, and this website.
